Using the Main LR mix with two outputs

I have an SQ6 connected to a GX4816 stage box. On the GX4816, output jacks #1 and #2 feed my left and right FOH speakers.

In the SQ6 I/O screen, it seems that I can only assign an input channel to either the Main LR mix Right, or Main LR mix Left, not both.

I want to be able to use the channel’s pan control to position the channel’s signal anywhere in the stereo field, but right now I can only pan the signal either left or right. How do I accomplish this?

Apologies for the rookie question.

In the SQ6 I/O screen you cannot assign an input channel to an output. You can assign any valid input to a channel on the SQ6 of which there are forty-eight to choose from. I would use the routing screen to assign the outputs of your channel to the Main LR

I’m a little confused by your description. Can you post a picture/screenshot of the settings page where you are attempting to assign this?

The “I/O” page is one place where you can assign the physical sources (like XLR inputs on your GX4816) to a specific channel (the destination). It’s not where you assign a channel to a buss (which sounds like what you are trying to do).

To assign a channel to a buss, you need to use the “Routing” page. If you assign a channel to a stereo buss, the pan control for the channel will work as desired.

Thanks Brian-1, but let me rephrase the question: How do I route the Main LR mix to the physical output connectors on my GX4816 stage box?

I have already assigned my channels to the Main LR mix, and now I want to route that mix to the physical output connectors on my GX4816 stage box.

Is the Main LR mix not a stereo bus that I can assign to physical output connectors on the GX4816? Do I need to use a different method to output a stereo mix to the physical outputs on the GX4816.

I hope I’m being clear. I’m not at the system now so I can’t do a screenshot.

Thanks again,

Russ Madeira

That makes more sense to me. Thank you for the clarification!

You will use the I/O screen to assign the Main L/R buss to a pair of physical XLR outputs on the GX4816.

First, you want to make sure you select the “Outputs” tab on the far left side of the “I/O” screen. Then you want to choose the “Mix Out” sub tab that is just to the right side of the Output tab. You should find the Main L/R buss located there (along with all your other busses/auxes, etc).

Now you need to assign that to a physical output. If you wanted to use an XLR output on the back of the console, you would choose the “Local” tab on the top of the screen. However since you are using the GX4816, you need to select the “SLink” tab (assuming your GX4816 is plugged into the built in SLink port on the back of the console).

Now you should be able to assign the Main L/R buss to two different XLR outputs on the GX4816. For example, you might assign the left side of the Main L/R buss to SLink Output #1 and the right side of the Main L/R buss to SLink Output #2. This means the physical XLR outputs 1&2 on the GX4816 are receiving the left and right signal (respectively) from the Main L/R buss.

Hopefully that is easy enough to understand. Here is a screenshot of the I/O page, but it doesn’t specifically show the Buss Mixes or SLink Outputs on this particular image. Instead, I’ve marked red squares around the tabs you need to select/use.

That worked. Thanks very much Brian-1!

How are you making those screenshots of the mixer screens?
