When will CQ get a proper update to allow for a stereo matrix instead of aux 5 & 6? And an update to occasionally allow multitrack recording to an SSD or USB drive? Because we always have a USB drive with us, but rarely an SD card.
I just leave an SD card in the slot always.

This is the way. I bought three identical SD cards and always have one in the CQ-20B, a spare in my travel kit, and one at home in case of loss. I remove the installed one only long enough to copy everything off it, and then put it back in place immediately.
Mine has been in so long I forgot is was there. Even when multi track recording.
