Windows 11 security update caused loss of QU7 MIDI integration with DAW

I’ve been wrestling with this for a few weeks now. A Windows 11 update in February resulted in the failure of my QU7’s DAW control to be recognized in Pro Tools. I did a bit of research and found that this had happened to many people using various MIDI desks and devices.

I uninstalled the update, and Pro Tools recognized the 4 DAW control MIDI ports in the MIDI devices menu. However, every subsequent Windows security update (5 of them) has resulted in the same problem occuring. So I am uninstalling each update as the appear.

I know that Microsoft is doing some major work on MIDI 2.0, but surely this loss of functionality isn’t acceptable?

I have the latest drivers and A&H MIDI Control installed. I previously used the QU32 in my studio for a decade, and have had the QU7 for 8 months now. Everything was working perfectly and sounding great on this new desk up until a few weeks ago

Hi, thanks for replying, I really appreciate it.

I installed the latest update, ran the MIDI checker which said “successfully tested connectivity to service” so I followed your instructions, but after downloading the winRT powershell, I still have no MIDI settings in Windows, and no DAW Ports in Pro Tools.

I noticed in the checker there is a note saying you might get “an incorrect positive from this test”, so that could be my problem?

I dont know what WinRT does but i think you need this:

Windows.MIDI.Services.SDK.Runtime.and.Tools.1.0.16-rc.3.3-x64.exe

https://github.com/microsoft/MIDI/releases/download/rc-3/Windows.MIDI.Services.SDK.Runtime.and.Tools.1.0.16-rc.3.7-x64.exe

This is now is the second post in there:

App SDK and Tools Release Candidate 3 + Basic MIDI 1.0 Loopbacks

After install you can find it in the Start menu and looks like this:

Have a look:

Thanks, but this link didn’t give me anything new…except that I went into the discord and started looking around.

I found the following and tried it, it worked for me:

And what exactly needs to be done (after I already have the one in my previous post: Windows Update + Windows.MIDI.Services.SDK.Runtime.and.Tools.1.0.16-rc.3.3-x64.exe):

  1. You need to turn on developer mode in Windows:
Settings for developers | Microsoft Learn

  2. You need to install (the app is in the discord link): Windows MIDI Services (KSA Transport Preview) 1.0.15-preview.14.90-x64.exe

What this causes: You don’t need to restart the midi service with .bat, the system recognizes it after starting the virtual midi ports as well.

Why do you think it is for you? OP still has problems.
