Wobbly handle - CQ20B - how to disassemble?

hey.
One of the handles on the side of my CQ20B is wobbly. I tried to disassemble the unit so that I could get to the screws which hold the handles on but after removing the little screws and opening it all up, I can’t see how to loosen the sides. The rubber bumpers must be covering up some remaining screws but I can’t see how to get the sides off without brutish force and I don’t want to break something.

Any help or resources?

The distributor tried to get a free repair for me but as it is just outside of warranty, they declined. Quoted me £45 ph labour plus parts plus shipping plus VAT.

So I took it all apart myself - not too difficult although the plastic LED light redirectors near the digital IO board (SD card etc.) are fiddly.

You have to literally take EVERYTHING off. Did that, tightened it all up, put it all back together and everything works fine again. About 90 minutes total.

Be careful when removing boards - you don’t have to separate the logic board from the audio IO board. I did but found out that I needn’t have. Also no need to remove the risers - they stay on the analogue IO board.

I’ve just done this repair to mine - what a pain in the backside. Literally the last four screws you get to are the handle screws. Impressive that every screw has locktight applied, but on the handles it was too deep along the screw to bite it into the metal chassis, letting it work loose. I dabbed a bit more higher up the thread to hopefully hold it.

  1. chassis bottom and back case screws TORX 8 (edge screws only - centre is for PSU that can stay attached)
  2. remove back, snip cable tie on PSU board ribbon cable & release, release 2-pin power cable from data board
  3. Remove Wifi ariel and SMA retaining nut & lock ring (8mm socket)
  4. Remove all 24 Neutrick XLR connector retaining screws (TORX 8), remove 8* phono socket retaining rings (11mm socket). I would leave top left/bottom right in loose until final step
  5. Remove Enclosure Fan: 7mm socket & TORX 15 on the bolt heads, and release the plug from the PCB. Watch out for the lock nut washers falling there should be 4.
  6. Remove final screws around USB socket (top, bottom and on the USB socket) and last Neutrick. Do this board on edge so that it does not fall.
  7. Gently lift the board stack up (both data and audio PCBs can stay sandwiched together, but clearence on the metal sheet case is tight.
  8. Double check the light-pipes for the LEDs are still in place (I lost one here into the chasis)
  9. Now empty, remove the 5 cross-head case screws from the inside at edge to release the plastic edge bumpers
  10. Now finally, remove and refit the handle cross head screws with lock-tight.
  11. Follow remaining instructions in reverse to re-assemnble.

Very nice and solid structure, no plastic anywhere that is structural. Decent bit of gear. If only the handle screws were exposed through the rubber edge bumpers it would be a doddle to fix. Tempting to drill the plastic cover if this happens again to make it so.
