Yellow warning notice- QOS Ace Warning

Guys, anyone know why I keep getting a “QOS Ace Port A” warning notice in my event logs? I am doing a theatre production that is using multiple scenes. Every so often the little yellow warning notice appears at the bottom of the screen. If I got to the event log, it always says “QOS Ace Port A” warning. Any ideas on whether this is a problem or if I can ignore it? The show is running fine, I just need to find out whether this is an issue or not. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Sam,

I have the same issue, and I read the link u posted. But how can we check the quality of cable? I have checked the user manuel, if says we can use a normal CAT5 cable, I’m using CANARE RJC5E-4P Cat5e cable, is it good enough for ACE?

I doubt it a cable itself, can be bad crimping of RJ45.

Hi Jonathan

The fact that the ACE QOS error is appearing would suggest that you either have a problem with your cable or that you have some interference near the cable that yould be causing a problem.

It is possible that power cables run along the same path at the Cat5 can cause problems.

You can buy continuity Cat5 testers which may help to diagnose a cable fault though most of them do not support Ethercon.

I am afraid we can’t test every single cable out there so there is a list of approved cables on our website. Below is a link to the page.

Hope this helps

thanks Sam,

will I create the interference if I roll the 40M excess cat5 cable in a roll?

Hi Jonathan

I is not advised to keep cable on a drum or in a roll as this can potentially cause problems due to interference.

This seems a bit problematic. We can’t exactly predict from venue to venue exactly how long we need our cable, and can’t carry multiple different lengths. Likewise, if we have extra cable, we certainly need to to keep it neat and organized, so it either needs to stay on the roll or in a coil.

Hi Jonathan

Sorry i probably made this sound more serious than it actually is.

This is very unlikely to actually cause a problem. I have tested our equipment hear with various cable on drums and in a roll and have had no issues, though there is a small chance that using cable in this way could cause a problem.

Not sure if this helps as I use Ethersound and network links not ACE but I have 80m cables to connect rack and surface together, sometimes quite a bit is left on the drum and never had a problem with interference. Though to be fair I installed two Gigabit network smart switches one withe the mix rack the other with the surface and connect them together using multimode fibre cable. With this I can have up to 550m of cable between the two, this works very well indeed so these days it is my usual method of connecting surface and rack.

Thanks Sam. I suddenly realized that much to I am sure much confusion, you are trying to respond to two people named Jonathan!
