Zed 10FX USB Output - Aux-FX button only left channel effect in iPhone

Hey all,

I have a Zed 10FX mixer that is awesome. I just getting involved with recording USB out into my iPhone. My issue is the AUX-FX output. My FX in my recording are coming out only on the left channel. I’m getting a stereo mix of my dry microphone from channel one in the recording, but just the reverb FX I’m running comes through the left channel. When listening through my headphones into the Aux mix on the mixer while recording to the Aux mix I have stereo sound with my dry mic and reverb sounding as it should, but then in the phone recording the reverb is on the left side. Note that the reverb comes out in stereo when I use the record bus or left right mix bus when I have neither USB button pressed in. It’s only when I’m using the AUX-FX output that I get a mono effect in my recording.

I realize that the aux channel technically is a mono channel, but then why is the dry mic from channel one coming through as stereo?

Thanks so much!

This seems to be normal behavior (although you’ve probably swapped left and right).
In the “Aux-FX” recording mode you mentioned, Aux is sent on the left channel and FX in mono on the right channel.
And there’s no mode where the FX is sent in stereo.
(See also the overview in the image.)

Thanks SQuser,

I see that the chart you’re using is for the ZEDi series, but I’m on the older ZED 10FX model. I haven’t been able to find this type of chart for my mixer anywhere.

I just listened to the recording again. In my video, I was describing what I was hearing in my headphones while recording. When I had the USB/AUX-FX USB Out button pressed in, I could hear my vocal (from XLR channel 1) in stereo through my headset. When I later played back the video using my Apple AirPods, I could also hear my vocal in stereo.

In the video, I mention that I could clearly hear the effects in my headphones during recording, using the Effects to Aux knob. However, when listening back to the video through my AirPods, the effects only play in the left ear. I know it’s the left channel for sure, because my AirPods only fit one way.

So, while recording and monitoring with headphones, everything sounded stereo. But during playback, the dry mic signal is stereo, and the reverb/effects come through only on the left channel. It’s frustrating, because I’d love to be able to have a separate recording mix—using the Aux Send and FX—for my recordings, while keeping a different mix for live sound at the open mic I run.

Thanks for taking the time!

UPDATE: After I typed this out, I found out that iOS 26 has a feature in the camera app settings where you could toggle spatial audio, stereo audio, and mono audio. I was sent to spatial audio earlier today and AAA I suggested that I was in the wrong setting so I went through all three modes but my problem persisted. So I just wanted to make sure you were aware that it was not specifically due to that iOS setting.

Oh, there were probably some misunderstandings, but now it’s clearer.
The only difference to the ZEDi that concerns your problem is that it can output four channels via USB, but that’s not important.
You’re currently referring to an explanatory video – certainly helpful, but we don’t have access to it.
And you’re now writing that you wanted to create two different stereo mixes, including FX, which is unfortunately not possible because, as you yourself have already noticed, your Aux mix is only mono.
But your “Effects to Aux” comment also makes your problem easy to explain:
If you select the “USB Out Aux-FX” option and then set the same levels for both Aux (send) and FX (send) in your channel 1, you’ll hear them dry in the middle - apparently stereo.
If you now open “FX to AUX”, the FX return will be mixed to the Aux, which is only your left channel.
This means that in this USB option you actually hear the desired FX only on the left side.

Thanks for the insight on the different between the ZEDI and ZED.

Thank you for explaining what is going on. It makes perfect sense. You were! Love you to ask more questions for myself, do a little bit more digging and understand it deeper. I appreciate this. Really!

Thanks for your feedback.
The Aux is essentially just intended as a monitor path, to which you can also mix a bit FX.
If two different stereo mixes were important to you, unfortunately you really didn’t choose the right device.
But often, it’s not absolutely necessary to realise a small live sound reinforcement in stereo.
If that’s the case for you, you could swap the priorities and use your “USB Out MAIN MIX” for recording while repurposing the aux mix for a mono sound system.
Both would then have adjustable FX, and the recording would be stereo.
While it wouldn’t be particularly comfortable to use, it might be better than nothing.

Additional an overview of all the differences between the 10 Series.
But for your project, the “i” wouldn’t be any advantage.

SQuser, you’re a genius!

I run either an EV evolve 50 or JBL eon one Mark to Collin PA which is mono, so sending the aux for mains the USB LR mix for the recording could give me that seperation I’m looking for, while sill getting effects to both, but stereo for the recording. Really, great thinking!

I’ve had the Zed for years and I’m just now trying to get more usage out of what it can do as a recent needs came up.

I’ll update with how it worked out. I appreciate you taking the time.

That would be really nice - thanks!
