ZED16FX microphone to port 11 t/m 16 with Jack

Hi to all, I have little knowledge of mixers. I tried to connect a microphone SM-58 to port 11 - 16 but with no luck. I tried a mono and a stereo jack plug connection but no success. Someone told me to use 2 stereo jack Y-cable. Is this true, can someone tell me how to use port 11 - 16 with microphone XLR (Shure SM-58)
Thanks in advance!

What desk?
An SM58 is a mono microphone, so no need to use two inputs. When using an SM58 into a jack input you ideally need a correctly wired three-pole jack plug, using two-core, screened wire.
The wiring is:
“tip” to the “+” wire
“ring” to the “-” wire
“sleeve” to the screen.

Input 11-16 are Line level, so you need to get a mic Preamp between the SM58 and the console.
As the Zed16FX only have 10 mic inputs.

So, could I use a i.e. Behringer X Air XR18 for my mics and connect it to any of port 11-16 ? As these are line ports ?

I take it, that you are already using 10 mics in input 1-10?

You could use the XR18 as a sub mix to get the SM58 up to line level, but it might introduce latenzy due to the AD/DA convertions in the XR.

Whereas, it could also point out that the latencies are no greater than if one were working with the XR18 alone, which people also do.

Hi steine, thanks for your feedback, would you think this latency will be worse by using de XR18 as a sub mix, or the same as when connecting direct and alone with the XR18 ? Will it be a problem for our amateur vocalgroup?

Hi SQuser, so If I understand your comment well, the XR18 as a submixer will be no problem? What if I leave the A&H at home, how should I play .mp3 from laptop on de XR18 ?

This question belongs more in the forum of the XR18 manufacturer.
But I see that it has, among other things, the two line inputs 17/18, which you can certainly connect your laptop to.
