Possible to "Solo" a track via PAFL AND hear any FX applied to it?!

Hi there
Being quite the newbie to the SQ6 I recently asked the question:

Simplest way to “solo” a track?

And you were kind enough to share some great idea to help do this, thanks.

So building off of that, as I explore the FX rack features I wondered if its at all possible to “solo” a track AND hear it with the FX applied too?

As simple example: I work with drums and am trying to use the various built in FX functions (reverb etc.) to tweak the sound of individual drums one at a time, and it would make things just that leedle beet easier if I could solo say the bass drum out to really hear it as I mess with the FX I have applied.

Here’s an example of the PFL settings I currently have for my SQDrive 32 channel playback mode:

Many thanks for all suggestions as ever.
Ed.

Since you’ve already activated PAFL Additive mode—whether intentionally or accidentally—it would also be possible to select additional the PAFLs of the FX returns of the desired FX for your selected channel.

A tip in this context might be to set up a soft key with the “PAFL Clear” function so that you can deselect all PAFLs with a single keystroke.

Thx.
So I think this is what you were suggesting??

So that appears to work, but can I just clarify:

IF I have both the fader PAFL button engaged (on the bass drum fader in this case) AND the FX RTN PAFL too, what I should hear is a “blend” of the 2 signals??

BUT IF I only hit the PAFL on the FX RTN and NOT the bass drum fader I should just hear the FX audio?
Do I have it right?

So, just to follow on from that, it is safest to ONLY engage the FX RTN PAFL after I have selected a track to focus on and NOT to leave the FX RTN PAFL engaged by default??

Many thanks again
Ed.

I think you’re thinking way too complicated, but maybe it’s just my poor grasp of English.

Yes. If you select both, you’ll hear both.

Yes, if you only select one, you’ll only hear one.

Unfortunately, I don’t quite understand what you mean by “safe,” because there’s actually no “unsafe” here.
If you only want to hear one channel, select only that channel.
If you only want to hear one FX, select only that FX.
If you want to hear both mixed, select both.
If you only want to use one FX for multiple drums and listen to the drums one after the other, leave FX Return selected and select the drums you want to hear with FX one after the other.
If you want to hear LR again, deselect all PAFLs.

Many thanks mystery SQuser, I think that just about covers things.

By “safe” I was thinking more about the best position to save the settings when saving a scene, so that you wouldn’t reload that scene and then by accident have some odd setting applied. (As you say its probably a “language” thing)

Best

Oh, now I don’t understand what you mean.
Have I put my foot in it again?

Ah, now I understand what you mean. :+1:
But the PAFL settings are part of a show, and also the PAFL channel selection is never changed by scene calls.

all good!
thx again
