What is the simplest way to “solo” any particular track please?
For example I am a drum tutor and have a range of drum mics, so its helpful when setting levels etc. to be able to simply “solo” the mic I want to hear in isolation, before moving on to the next mic. etc.
My previous mixer had a “solo button” per track and I kinda miss it now!
Since no one has answered yet:
The question is how do you want to hear a single microphone: Using headphones or speakers?
The normal way would be to plug headphones into the headphone output of your console, press the PAFL button of the respective microphone chanell and turn the volume control of the headphones to the desired value.
A Solo (in place) function is less common than P(A)FL and may not be the most suitable for your purpose.
Excellent! thank you.
So IF I do want to just hear the “solo” PAFL feed to my main stereo speakers is there a way to do it?
(I’m in a music studio so there I don’t have competing sounds to worry about)
Yes, you can also patch in “I/O - Outputs - Monitor Out Patch” PAFL or also Listen to outputs where your speakers are connected.
Listen is nice for studio use and you could even swap your Main Fader for the Listen Fader under “Setup - Config - Role”.
And additional a graphic showing how it would work:
Hi
Thx for this. I’m glad to know its possible, but sadly the diagram is WAY above my current pay grade!
When I sent to the I/O screen I noticed that currently the Local ports out to the 2 speakers (1 and 2) are already assigned to the MainR (L and R) see pic…
So to listen to PAFL via the main speakers, do I need to create a separate “scene” for this particular use case? Or is there a simpler way to get PAFL to play to the main speakers without requiring a separate “scene” perhaps?
If you now switch a channel to PAFL you will hear it.
If you deactivate PAFL there again (red PAFL LED under the meter goes out), you should hear MAIN LR again.
If not, activate “LR to PAFL” as in the picture:
hi again
So patching outputs 1/2 to Listen LR instead of Main LR worked great thx.
So when I tried to save this configuration to my “playback” SQDrive scene its’ not saving and I’m guessing its something to do with all the “blocked” elements in the Recall Filter.
See below what I currently have set up and could you please let me know what I might need to “allow” so I can save it to the SQDrive scene please??
It was most likely saved, because recall filters are called that because they work when you recall and not when you save.
But what are your Local Filters doing?
I can probably assume that under Other - Output Sockets - Local Patch is not blocked.?
Just for a little more context (which may play into this issue)
So originally I was advised by the UK support staff (Max) to create 2 scenes:
Generic: to use for recording
“SQDrive” to use for playback (which as the majority of recall filter channels blocked as per the previous photos above)
Whenever I step between the 2 filters, the “patching outputs 1/2 to Listen LR instead of Main LR” seems to disappear even after trying repeatedly to save it to the “SQDrive” scene.
So, this is why I was wondered if its related to a blocked “recall filter” box.
I have just tried the "Other - Output Sockets - Local Patch " as unblocked but that does not seem to solve the “saving” issue.
No.
I’ll ask again:
So far, have you saved all scenes in this show with Main LR to Outputs 1/2.
From now on, do you want the new patch of Listen LR to stay in Outputs 1/2, no matter which scenes you recall?
If so, then in my opinion the Block at the mentioned point in the Local Filters (!) would be correct.
I checked it now again and it works for me too.
Other than that, I don’t know enough to help you any further.
You keep writing about “Recall Filters”, but did you read that I wrote about “Global Filters”?
I know this sounds simplistic, but why don’t you just leave all of the output patching alone (L/R mains) and just mute all of the drum microphone input strips apart from one. You then move down all of the microphones one at a time, and then unmute them all at the end.
Given the fact that you are in a music studio, it seems the easiest thing to do is to only patch the PAFL outputs to your studio speakers. You can always set the default PAFL send to be the Main R/L output when nothing is actively being PAFLed (edit - on the SQ it’s the “LR to PAFL” setting found in the PALF setup tab). But as soon as you select one or more sources to be PAFL’d, that is what you would hear from the speakers. No scene recalls needed.
Long story short, don’t patch your Main L/R buss to the speakers - only the PAFL buss and turn on the “LR to PALF” setting found in the PAFL tab.
