Hi,

I am trying to source a shallow 4u flight case that will fit my QU-SB.

It’s tricky because the QU-SB rack mount angles the front and the bottom edge of the QU-SB projects out 38mm from the flight case screw plate. Most flight case front covers won’t fit on with the QU-SB installed.

I thought this SKB might work but the dimensions show that the front cover is 10mm too shallow inside so it wouldn’t be possible to put the flight case lid on. 4U rSeries Shallow Rack

Has anyone found a shallow flight case that definitely fits?
it’s a class unit BTW…

I considered getting one with a deeper lid made by Swan Flight who’ve provided several of my cases before, as it really does not add much to the cost. However in the end, I found another solution:

My QU-Pac, which has the same angle on the front I believe, is in a “proper” ply/aluminium case, but I unbolted the rack strip & fitted it the other way around. It did make fitting the unit a little more fiddly, but once done it works very well.

You could try spacing the rack back from the rails?

I’ve just ordered the SKB 4u shallow roto rack, I didn’t check clearance…

@GaryW - Hopefully you can work something out with that SKB as it’s a nice looking case.

@[XAP]Bob - Do you mean install spacers so the QU-SB rack mount ear are screwed in from the back of the flightcase rails to gain the extra 10mm or so?

I own the QU-PAC and I use this case which works perfectly. If the QU SB does not protrude any further forward than the QU PAC, then it will work. The rack is very shallow and allows for easy connection to the back. The quality is surprisingly good and I have been using mine regularly since I got the QU PAC over a year ago.

That case looks exactly like this ‘Spider’ branded one here in the UK. I think that will do nicely.

Can you get a Sweetwater rep. to special order them for you? I have always found them to be most helpful.

A bit of an extreme solution but Thomann in Germany would ship them to you!

Yikes, that would turn this into a VERY expensive set of rack ears!

My buddy just emailed me and said his Qu-SB rack ears are in shipment from B&H.

This one fits very good!

Obviously you need the ear rack. 66 Euros are much money, but I think it’s the only way you can rack it…

Clarification on my first post, this SKB case does indeed fit.

Another member contacted me to say they had good luck with one so I ordered it (even though the dimensions stated suggest it won’t fit). It’s a great case for the QU-SB but premium price.

It’s still deep enough that the unit doesn’t get front heavy/‘tippy’ like the first one I tried.
